Core Learning - Monday 22nd June

Hi Everyone,

This is our last week of home learning before we finish up for the Summer holidays! We are going to hold our final Senior Infant zoom on Wednesday 24th June at 11.45am. Login details will be sent to you by email on Monday. We will be reading the story ‘When it’s the last day of school’ and asking questions contained in the core learning document. More information will be sent in an email on Monday. Looking forward to seeing you!

We are sending some core learning to be completed. We have included the STEM challenge link below which was sent to you previously by email and feel it would be a great time to maybe take on a challenge listed.

http://www.firhouseetns.ie/step-5-stem-showcase.html

Some of the challenges listed are:
  • Design and make a raft
  • Create a puppet
  • Create a garbage monster
  • Create a working zipline/bridge
  • Create the best toy ever
  • Make a Rube Goldberg Machine
  • Make a sensory hopscotch

It would be a nice idea to share one of the challenges you have created or started to create on our zoom on Tuesday or talk about your favourite memory of Senior Infants.

Most importantly remember to please take lots of time to play! This website has tonnes of ideas and guidance https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/lets-play-ireland/

Congratulations to you all on finishing Senior Infants and your second year in primary school. You have all done so well and we are very proud of everything you have achieved this year. You have come so far in your learning journey and we wish you all the best in First Class.

Very best wishes to you and your families,
Jen and Clíona

Core Learning- Monday 15th June

Hi Everyone!

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and well.
For the month of June, our focus is on the outdoors. For ideas on how to explore the natural world around us click here: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/30-days-wild-schools-pack
If you do any of these please share them with us via the homlearning@firhouseetns.ie email or the class webpages. There is one activity in that pack entitled ‘Design your own bird’ and we thought it would be a nice idea for children to do so. They can draw a picture of their bird and give it a name and list some facts about it. Please find the link below to the lesson:
https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/sites/default/files/2020-04/Design%20a%20bird.pdf

Our next Story Time for the two Senior Infant Classes will take place on Tuesday 16th June at 12.30pm
Please join us! We will send Zoom meeting details by email. We will be reading the story ‘And Then Comes Summer’ and asking questions at the end. There will also be an opportunity for the children to show us the bird that they designed and tell us its name and some facts about it.

The core learning activities for the week of 15th - 19th June are explained below. As always, we encourage you to do your best to complete these and share them with us

Very best wishes to you and your families,

Jen and Clíona

Core Learning - Monday 8th June

Hi Everyone!

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and well.

This week, we are focusing on nature, wildlife and the outdoors. Below, and on the school website, you will find lots of ideas you can try to use to learn and explore the natural world. We are very lucky to have one of our Senior Infant children Caíntigern who was involved in a podcast for RTE all about bees alongside her older brother and sister Lenán and Béibhinn. This week we are going to listen to the podcast as part of our home learning (please see link below) and draw a picture of a bee on a flower.
https://www.rte.ie/radio1/podcast/podcast_ecolution.xml (Episode 19)

Our next Story Time for the two Senior Infant Classes will take place on Tuesday 9th June at 12.30pm
Please join us! We will send Zoom meeting details by email. We will be reading the story ‘Sand, waves and icecream’ from our home learning this week and as always asking questions at the end. We will then ask the children to share their pictures of a bee on a flower that they have drawn

The core learning activities for the week of 8th - 12th June are explained below. As always, we encourage you to do your best to complete these and share them with us via the homlearning@firhouseetns.ie email or the class webpages.

Very best wishes to you and your families,

Core Learning - Monday 11th May

Hi Everyone,

We hope everyone is enjoying the lovely sunshine at the moment as best they can and staying active even though active week is now over. This week we are celebrating World Book Day so make sure you keep on reading everyone! We are asking everyone to send on photos of a Reading Fort that you have created using sheets/pillows etc (somewhere you can go and read quietly) and a picture of you reading your favourite book or just a picture of your favourite book instead. We are also planning on having a Zoom Story Time with everyone in Senior Infants on Tuesday the 12th of May at 12.30
(We will send an email with Zoom meeting details) and would be delighted if you could attend. We will read the story ‘Up, Up and Away!’ with the class, have a short discussion where we will ask questions listed in the core learning document to everyone and give the children an opportunity to answer by raising their hand on the zoom call if they would like to participate. We will also encourage the children to show their favourite book for World Book Day coming up. This meeting is primarily a chance for children to socialise and interact with their friends and teachers, and we hope to see you there!

Please find attached the core learning for this week in English, Irish and Maths and remember to send your work into us through the contact form on your class webpage or through homelearning@firhouseetns.ie
Don’t forget to continue to use the links sent to you previously for Art, Music, Science etc
We will be having an assembly on Friday the 15th of May to celebrate World Book Day and if you would like to dress up as a character from your favourite story then please do so.

Thank you all for your continuous engagement so far!

Kind regards,

Jen and Clíona

Core Learning - Tuesday 4th May

Hi Everyone,

A huge well done to all of the engagement we received from Senior Infants in our Active Home Challenge! You should be very proud of yourselves for your hard work.

We have also been lucky enough to have been informed of a number of resources that Dublin Zoo have on offer to keep children busy! If your child has any interest in animals I am sure that they will love these.

You can find all activities outlined below here - www.dublinzoo.ie/news/dublinzoofun/ - or just click on the links below:

1- Daily activity booklets are available from our website at 2pm each day featuring a different animal at Dublin Zoo. All answers can be found from Dublin Zoo’s Animal Encylopedia.
2- Six nature activity videos can be found on our YouTube channel with Teacher Kelly guiding learners through DIY activities to learn and support biodiversity. If you can manage to get out into nature while the restrictions are in place we hope that these videos will provide lots of ideas to do with your children.
3- A virtual tour is released each Monday giving viewers at home a front row glimpse of animals in action in their habitats.
4- You can tune into our webcams to see how the animals at Dublin Zoo spend their time while the visitors are away. Why not join the elephant feed at 12.30 and snack with the penguins at 2.30 pm?

Please find attached the core learning this week in English, Irish and Maths.
We want to thank you for your wonderful engagement so far and hope that you are all keeping safe and well.

Kind regards,

Jen and Clíona

Core Learning - Monday 20th April

Hi Everyone,

We hope you had a lovely relaxing break and enjoyed spending time with your family. Welcome to a very unique Term 3! We are looking forward to seeing your Mad Hatter creations that you have been working on over the holidays! ☺

This week we are again setting some core learning activities for you to do. We have attached them below this letter in a Word document. Please complete these and share them with us using the form on your class webpage.
Jen’s Class: http://www.firhouseetns.ie/senior-infants-jen-2019-2020.html
Clíona’s Class: http://www.firhouseetns.ie/senior-infants-cliona-2019-2020.html

For pronunciation in Irish, there are two good websites we recommend you use that have sound files beside each word and you can listen to how its pronounced. They are as follows:
https://www.focloir.ie
https://www.teanglann.ie

*Use the Munster and/or Connacht dialects and not the Ulster dialect as that can be very different.

There are some additional activities available online that children could complete if
they so wish.
  • P.E. at 9am each day- Joe Wicks (Youtube: P.E. with Joe)
  • Each day at 11am a short audiobook by David Walliams will be released - https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
  • Science experiments online everyday @ 10am with Junior Einstein’s Science Club: https://junioreinsteinsscienceclub.com/everyday-10am-live-interactive-online-fun-science-club-sessions/
  • Borrow Box: Children can listen to audiobooks and read ebooks online using this app. You sign up at Libraries Ireland and you'll be able to log in to the BorrowBox app and you can download children’s books that you normally would borrow from the library.
  • Dabbledoo – parents can sign up for free for one month. It contains music content for kids which includes radio shows, singalongs and games linked to the school curriculum https://dabbledoomusic.com/p/parents-subscription-full-access/?product_id=1122889&coupon_code=FREEMONTH
  • Art Zone - Art Zone are running free classes online through their Facebook page every Tuesday and Friday @ 12pm on www.facebook.com/artzone.ie

If emailing on examples of your best work or Mad Hatter creations please send them on as an attachment in an email to homelearning@firhouseetns.ie with the class teacher’s name in the subject line. Any queries or questions about Home Learning should be sent through the contact form on your child’s class webpage.

We look forward to seeing all your wonderful work.
Kind Regards,
Jen and Clíona

Core Learning - Monday 30th March

Hi everyone,

Congratulations on all the amazing learning and work you are doing at home! We love getting examples of your work and we have started sharing some of these on the class webpages.
This week, we are setting some core learning activities for you to do. You can find them in the attachment below this letter and we have also emailed them directly to you. Please complete these and share them with us using the form on your class webpage:
Jen’s Class: http://www.firhouseetns.ie/senior-infants-jen-2019-2020.html
Clíona’s Class: http://www.firhouseetns.ie/senior-infants-cliona-2019-2020.html

If you do not have access to a printer, you can upload the answers to the core learning work on a separate sheet.
If you have any queries or questions about the work please send them via the contact form on the class page and there is an option to send only to teacher rather than posting your query on the page.

In addition to these core learning activities, you could continue using the learning activity ideas and links we sent you already but please remember that these were sent to you as a support rather than as essential tasks to be done.
We also suggest that you make and send a thank you card to the hospital staff who are working so hard
We invite you to create a Mad Hatter’s hat and upload a photo of it to your class webpage for Monday 20th April.

Very best wishes to you and your families,
Jen and Clíona
