Firhouse ETNS, an Active School
|
|
Here at Firhouse Educate Together National School we recognise the important role exercise plays in staying healthy and happy! We aim to give the children as many opportunities as possible to get active whilst at school, whether it be P.E. lessons, Move It mornings in the yard or our movement/brain breaks in the classroom.

Junior Infants 'Active Homework'
Active Week 2017
We had a such a great week for Active Week 2017! This week we learned all about the importance of staying active. Each day each of us made a commitment to do AT LEAST 60 minutes of exercise each day. We started off each morning with one of our world famous 'Move It' mornings, each morning a different teacher led us in exercise and on Friday girls from Second Class led us in dance to 'The Macerena'.
We had very special visitors to help us celebrate active week too! First and Second class enjoyed a visit from Jessie from Volleyball Ireland and they also went to the Astro Park in Tallaght. We also had Ben and Jessica from Pentathlon Ireland for the Laser Run, we LOVED this! For the laser run we ran and used laser guns to shoot at a target! Some children even commented that it was "the best thing they had ever done!" On Friday, we all took part in our very own version of RTÉ's popular T.V. show "Ireland's Fittest Family" which, we named "Firhouse's Fittest Friends". We took part in several events such as; Tug of War, Bean Bag Toss, Egg & Spoon Race, Activity Relay, The Mammoth Marathon Race and The Frisbee Throw! To top off a fantastic week we were all awarded a beautiful certificate to reward all of our hard work!

Healthy Eating Week at Firhouse Educate Together
What a fantastic week we've had in F.E.T.N.S!! During Healthy Eating Week we learned all about food. Each day we tried a different kind of fruit and/or vegetable. On Friday we had a healthy eating day where we did lots of activities to do with healthy eating. We made our own food pyramids, carried out a science experiment where we looked at the amount of sugar in different foods, an active station where we did some exercise (which we learned is very important as well as a healthy diet) and we made DELICIOUS fruit and vegetable smoothies. Another great week in Firhouse Educate Together!
'Move It' MorningsCome and have a look at our 'Move It' mornings, where children and parents come together and start the day off with some exercise in the yard before school.
|
Crazy Costume MileWe ran, walked, skipped and jumped for a mile in our costumes whilst celebrating our 'One Day Together' and we raised money for charity too.
|
Our School DiscoWe bopped til we dropped at our school disco! Children and staff from all classes came together and spent the afternoon dancing to music in the yard.
