Our Nature Notes segment in our Friday Assemblies have been so successful that we have decided to create a dedicated page to it. For all things nature and Firhouse ETNS, this will be your only stop!
Bees
This week we have a very exciting activity. Three members of our school community featured on a podcast for RTÉjr! They spoke all about bees and the important job they do. Below you can see pictures sent in showing the different equipment beekeepers need when looking after bees. You can see a honeycomb frame, beekeeping suit and the smoker used before opening a full hive as explained by the bee keeper at the start of the podcast. It is very interesting to listen to all the facts about bees and how to look after them. ● Have a listen to episode 19, Beecolution, of RTÉjr’s podcast below. ● Keep a special listen out between the minutes 12:50 to 17:00 and you will hear members of our own school community. ● Create a poster/drawing of what you hear and learn when listening to the podcast. ● Send in your poster and it will feature here too.
We listened, we learnt, we drew.
Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all looking out for the birds and putting up your Bird feeders, Don't forget to send in pictures of them and any Birds you see in your area. Heres a little video of some birds feeding in my garden. From Brendan.
There are some pictures of birds you can print out and colour at home below!
If you don't have a printer, don't worry, try drawing the bird you'd like to colour!
While the children are away, the foxes will play! Also have a look at the other animals that have been spotted!
Wellbeing Week For Wellbeing Week, one member of our school community was able to really embrace the nature around them and has allowed us to share it with you. If anyone can offer advice on dealing with starlings, she would greatly appreciate it also!
DIY Eco-System Two members of the Firhouse ETNS visited the River Dodder and were able to create their own eco-system that they have allowed us to share. They wanted everyone to know how much there is to learn and enjoy in the natural world around us! Hopefully this encourages more to take advantage of the world around them!
Here are pictures of some of our staff enjoying planting and out walking in the lovely sunshine.
Look at what Ann-Marie saw on her walk .What a wonderful rainbow!
Agnieszka sent in a lovely picture of her lobelia plant. She will send us more photos as it grows!
