STAND UP TO RACISM WEEK 2021

We are currently engaging in Stand up to Racism Week. Every class is taking part in a number of activities as outlined on the slides. We are all working on a whole school display, under the motto of "Say Something".  Everyone has a voice and we will use ours!

Many classes completed projects and activities all about Black History Month in November. It tied in well with our value of Equality.
Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to:

In Bláithín's 1st Class, they read the story of Sulwe together and discussed the importance of celebrating and acknowledging black history month. Bláithín's class then used the ipads to look up facts about influential black people who have added to monumental historic events and discussed how their influence helped change the world for the better.
In Clare's 6th Class, everyone did projects based on an individual of their choice. The children researched the person's background, life and achievements to date. Take a look at some of the great work the children did :)

Holly's 2nd Class watched Lupita Nyong'o reading her book, Sulwe. We discussed influential people and role models, including Gavin Bazunu, our own local Irish football player! We also chatted about Martin Luther King, and discussed his life and the things he believed.
In Anna's 5th Class, the children researched historical figures and also about the civil rights movements. Take a look at their projects!

We are so proud to have earned our first ever Yellow Flag in 2021. We are eagerly looking forward to the awards ceremony. Stay tuned here for updates...

Have a look at our Intercultural Week 2021! We celebrated the many cultures in our school. Thank you to everyone who took part.

This year we are working towards our first ever Yellow Flag!

On Thursday 16th May, we had an Intercultural Day. We celebrated and recognised the diversity of our school community. Parents, guardians and grandparents from many classes came in and shared their culture with the children.

Here is a sample of the amazing artwork completed that day!

Junior and Senior Infants decorated flags. We put these altogether to make a very special tree. We are so proud of our diversity. The infant classes also listened to stories and music from different cultures.
