Thursday 30th September

We have had a fantastic September in Firhouse ETNS. It has been a great start to the new school year. The children have settled in well to their new classes and are working hard. They've shown a huge welcome to me, the new teachers in our school and to new students too.

Donations
Thank you all so much for your very generous donations. We've received lots of jigsaws and puzzles, board games, books, costumes, bean bags, lego/duplo and more which the children will really enjoy using in our classrooms.

Student Council
Our student council met yesterday with three of our teachers, Celine, Holly and Clíona. They will meet regularly to represent their classes, discuss things that are important to the children and help to make decisions on school life.

Class names and padlet pages
All our classes now have a flower name. This name was voted on by the children in each class. The classroom doors will be decorated with this flower in the coming weeks.
We have also set up padlet pages for each class. These will be added to our website soon and will show the activities and topics that the children are learning about in their classes.

Shout Outs
Lots of our classes have started 'Shout Out' walls. When a staff member sees great work and kindness they write a shout out on a postit note and these are then displayed in the classroom. Lots of classes have goals to work towards e.g. working independently, walking quietly in the corridor so that other classes are not disturbed etc.

We have had a fantastic start to the new school year. Our wonderful children arrive happy and ready to learn each day. So many amazing things have happened over the last few weeks. We have welcomed new staff members to our school.

New staff
We welcome a lot of new staff to our school. Our new teachers are Ruth Cowman (2nd Class), Anna Colgan (4th class), Clare O'Flaherty (6th class), Ciara O' Hare (S.E.T.), Ronan Murphy (Evergreen class) and our new ISA's, Lauren Kelly (3rd/4th Class) and Margaret Farina (Evergreen class). The children and staff have been very welcoming to our new staff.

Goals
At the moment, we're working on walking quietly and carefully in the corridors. This is important to keep everyone safe and also so we don't disrupt the learning in other classes. The children have been working really hard with this and have been rewarded with golden tickets.

Golden tickets
I've been very busy visiting all the classes in our school and rewarding the children with 'Golden Tickets'. These tickets are earned by the children individually or as a whole class when they are working hard and showing kindness and respect to others.

School supplies
We ordered our stationery, copies and art supplies at the beginning of September and they are arriving every day. Children from 3rd, 5th and 6th class have helped me to distribute the supplies. They have been really fantastic at counting the supplies, completing stock takes, organising copies, and delivering art supplies to classrooms.

Covid 19
Our Padlet is updated regularly in line with HSE guidance and advice. We have put a range of measures in place to mitigate against the risk of Covid 19 in our school. These include ventilation, masks (all staff members), one way system throughout the school, regular hand washing and sanitisation, cleaning. Thank you for your continued support with this. Please continue to keep your child at home if they have any symptoms of Covid 19.
