Good morning everyone! I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. We got a lot of great work done last week and hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing weekend. For the month of June, our focus is on the outdoors. For ideas on how to explore the natural world around click here: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/30-days-wild-schools-pack If you do any of these, please share them on Google Classroom or you can send them through the school email address homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it. If your child completes any other activities or is working on a project, feel free to share it. We are still looking for volunteers for our Virtual Sports Day and to show off our school’s STEM abilities. It can be something live or you can document it in pictures and video. I would be more than happy to present it for you if that’s a concern for anyone. But please, help me showcase the immense talent of 3rd Class!! Also in keeping with our theme of Nature for the month of June I would also like to bring to your attention the brilliant resource available from Dublin Zoo. You can complete a virtual tour of the zoo itself here: https://www.dublinzoo.ie/virtual-tours-2/ and can get a tour of a Rainforest here. They have also created a worksheet based on the rainforest which I have included. If Space is more of interest you could also pay a visit to Smarttscience.com. It has been created by professor of astrophysics Stephen Smartt who also hosts a live video lesson every Tuesday at 11 o' clock via his YouTube channel. Check out his website and channel for the lessons he has already completed. Take care! John Home Learning: Week starting Monday, June 22nd, 2020 Our work this week will come from books we use in class. You can access these for free online at https://my.cjfallon.ie/dashboard/student-resources. I have attached the pages for this week again as well as the reading for our Book Club discussion. You can use Google Classroom to create a Doc to record your work or photo your work and attach it to relevant subject areas. Spread your work out over the week - don’t try to do it all in one day! Home Learning Week 25-29/05/20
Monday, 25th May 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. We got a lot of great work done last week and hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing weekend.
We continue to look for people who can help make our assemblies a special occasion and if you think you can help us with that, be sure to let me know through homelearning@firhouseetns.ie with my name in the subject line and we will endeavour to schedule it for a future assembly. I have to say it has filled me with immense pride to see members of my class being willing to take part in the assemblies so far and hope it continues.
It has been great seeing the different projects that people are doing at home in addition to the core learning, especially this week as I got a glimpse of the talented bakers and cooks in my class. If anyone has created something that they are proud of, please let me know as I remain very interested in your lives and would love to be able to share it with the class.
This week we continue to concentrate on looking after ourselves for our assembly on Friday as we celebrate our Wellbeing. I hope everyone can take some time each day to ensure their own wellbeing. If you didn’t get an opportunity last week, I hope you find time this week to engage with some of the activities.
Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. The email address to send your best work to is homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it. If your child completes any other activities or is working on a project, feel free to share it.
Take care!

Home Learning 18-22/05/20
Monday, 18th May 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. We got a lot of great work done last week and hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing weekend.
Another assembly and another outstanding performance from 3rd Class. A huge well done to Marat who joined Kristin and Mark in having displayed their immense talent to the rest of the school. If there’s something your child would like to share, like reciting a poem or passage from a favourite book, something inspired from Active HOME challenge, be sure to let me know through homelearning@firhouseetns.ie with my name in the subject line and we will endeavour to schedule it for a future assembly. I have to say it has filled me with immense pride to see members of my class being willing to take part in the assemblies so far and hope it continues.
I want to say a big well done and thank you to everyone who was able to take part in our World Book Day. It was great to see such a love of reading and hope it continues for years to come. I would also like to thank those who shared pictures of their reading areas or of other work they created inspired by our celebration.
This week we are concentrating on looking after ourselves for our assembly on Friday as we are celebrating our Wellbeing. I hope everyone can take some time each day to ensure their own wellbeing. We are in a very strange time and it is more important than ever that we look after ourselves and treat ourselves well.
Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. The email address to send your best work to is homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it.
If your child completes any other activities or is working on a project, feel free to share it.
Take care!

Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. We got a lot of great work done last week and hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing Bank Holiday Weekend.
As many of you will have seen in our most recent assembly, we are expanding the participants to more than just staff members and have had performances and insights from our student population as well, take Mark’s musical performance for example. If there’s something your child would like to share, like reciting a poem or passage from a favourite book, something inspired from Active HOME challenge, be sure to let me know through homelearning@firhouseetns.ie with my name in the subject line and we will endeavour to schedule it for a future assembly.
This week we are celebrating reading and for our assembly on Friday, we are celebrating a Jersey Day as we announce the winning class of our Active HOME Challenge. I hope to see as many people as possible join in with this and can’t wait to see how 3rd Class have performed.
Below is the work for the week ahead. Do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.
Finally, I just want to say a big well done to everyone in taking part in our Active HOME Challenge week! If you haven’t already, please forward your Challenge Chart or active pictures onto me as our class competes to win an extra PE class from an outside coach!
Take care!

Monday, 27th April 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. We got a lot of great work done last week and it was great to see so many faces at our assembly on Friday. I would again like to say a huge WELL DONE to Mark on his stellar performance. Hopefully it will be the first of many for 3rd Class.
This week is Active HOME Week and we aim to be as active as possible. We want everyone to engage in at least 1 hour of some kind of physical activity throughout the day and record it on the “Challenge Chart” you received on Friday. Check out the school website and the table below for some possible activities:
Monday
Musical Statues
Tuesday
Toilet Roll Keepy Uppies
Wednesday
Family Wheelbarrow/ Wooden Spoon Race

Finally, Dublin Zoo has developed an online facility for everyone to experience the thrill of a trip to the zoo from home: https://www.dublinzoo.ie/news/dublinzoofun/ It seems like a great resource and I hope everyone can make use of it.
Take care!

Thursday
Target Practice Challenge (Pick a spot on a path or a wall and see can you hit it. Too easy? How can you increase the challenge?)
Friday
Fitness Alphabet (make the letters of the alphabet using only your body)
Saturday
Skipathon
Sunday
Ball skills challenge (Basketballs, footballs, small balls, large balls- what skills can you do with them?)
Remember: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Don’t Put Off Feeling Good!!!!
Below is the work for the week ahead. Do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.
Finally, Dublin Zoo has developed an online facility for everyone to experience the thrill of a trip to the zoo from home: https://www.dublinzoo.ie/news/dublinzoofun/ It seems like a great resource and I hope everyone can make use of it.
Take care!

3rd Class Home Learning: Week beginning Monday, 20th April
Monday, 20th April 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home and had an enjoyable break. I know that this is a difficult time. We all had a lot to adjust to before our break and were able to accomplish a lot as we adjusted to our new situations. For this reason, I hope everyone made the best of the time to relax.
We are now beginning a unique Term 3 as we continue our learning at home. I know it is very hard to be apart from your friends at this time. Maybe consider writing a postcard or a letter to your friends or a relative to share your news and keep in touch. As we learned in Stay Safe, if you are feeling upset it is important to chat to a grown-up at home. A problem shared is a problem halved!
Below is the work for the week ahead. Do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.
Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. If your child completes any other activities or is working on a project, feel free to share it.
Finally, remember that RTÉ2 is airing a fantastic programme called Home School Hub each weekday morning from 11am to 12pm. You may find some more nice learning ideas here. The three múinteoirí are great fun and you’ll learn lots from them! Their website is https://www.rte.ie/learn/ and the show is also available on the RTÉ player.
Take care!

Third Class - Home Learning
Monday, 30th March 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. I know that this is a difficult time. The most important thing you can do at the moment is to take care of yourselves and your families. I miss seeing each one of you in class every morning and hearing your news. I look forward to when we can all get back to normal again.
In the meantime, I have some work here to keep up your learning at home this week. This is the last week of the second term in school before the Spring Holidays which start this Friday, April 3rd. Just like the last two weeks, do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.
Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. The email address to send your best work to is homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it.
Finally, a number of different groups have been organising to support others, particularly families in the home during this time. Active resources, including some arranged by the South Dublin County Sports Partnership and ICT resources can be found on our school website in the relevant sections. South Dublin County Sports Partnership have provided coaches for us during the year and are now offering live guided activities over YouTube for us to join in with Monday to Thursday and are looking for suggestions for a Friday activity.
Take care!
