First we started the eyes. Then we did the head. After that we did the body and the hair. Then we did the mouth. We used the sharpie and we coloured in. Then I coloured the background. We put it on the wall. -Ammar.

First we did the eyes, then the mouth and then the jaw. Next we did the head and the hair, neck and body. We designed the t-shirt and coloured it in. Mine was red with a smiley face. I really enjoyed it. - Graham.

STEM Challenge: Making birds nest

Planning and designing
We made a plan. The plan was good but when we were about to start the birds nest, we found out that the plan would not work because the egg would fall out. We couldn't stick the lollypop sticks. We had to change our plan. - Noah and Vlad.

Making and building
So first we did a square shape with lollipop sticks and then we filled in the floor with lollypop sticks. When we finished the floor we built up the walls with lollypop sticks. When we finished that we unrolled the cotton wool for the floor. - Gabriella
First we got lollypop sticks and cotton wool. We made a square out of lollypop sticks and then we filled the square. Then we built up the lollypop sticks at the sides and corners. We unravelled the cotton wool and put it in. - Jamie K
Testing and presenting
I was happy to show me and Leon's nest. First we started with the floor then we started the walls and last the cotton wool. - Najma.

I was nervous that the egg was even going to stay in the wool of me and Najma's nest. We glues popsicle sticks together and then we put them on the base (also made of popsicle sticks glued together). Then we put wool in the nest and there you go! A home made nest! - Leon
Suzanne's chickens have been getting great use out of our nests!

Bird watching and Nature hunt

When we went bird watching we tried to find these birds... Blackbirds, blue tit, great tit, robin, wood pigeon, starling, house sparrow, goldfinch, and a chaffinch. We went out of the school in to the grass and through the houses. We found lots of birds. We had lots of fun then we went back to the school. - Kitty.

A goldfinch is a rare bird. It has a red face and a black and white head and yellow stipes on its wings.
A great tit is an uncommon bird. It has a black crown, white cheeks and yellow or green sides. - Max

Our class went bird watching. Najma and I found five birds and they were blackbird, blue tits, robin, wood pigeon and starling. We walked around firhouse looking for birds. It was really fun! - Oscar

Leon and I found all of the birds except one. We found the blackbird, blue tit, goldfinch, robin, great tit, collared dove, house sparrow, wood pigeon and a starling. -Aston

Home learning - January and February

Emma, Iris, Max, Kitty and Mekael have really enjoyed art. Ammar missed art and writing. Oscar, Leon, Nathan, Aston, Jamie, Jamie and Graham missed their friends and have been happy to see them. Najma missed golden time and Mariam missed P.E. Pearl and Gabriella missed science. Noah missed the playground and Vlad missed everything. We are happy to be back at school!

Ag scríobh as gaeilge (writing in Irish).
Reporting by Elliot and Najma

Each table picked a character for our story. We each wrote a sentence in Irish. We illustrated our page of the book. We used the book creator app. We took a picture of our page. We recorded ourselves reading our page. We put them together. The class read our books together. It was fun!

October

Self Expression Day!
We earned 20 golden tickets and we voted to go on a trip to our local playground. We had so much fun!
We had a very busy time with Maths week and with Space week! Take a look at what we got up to.
We practised our coding skills with some unplugged coding activities first.

We practised symmetry and created some name monsters.
We completed different activities with the beebots. We are excellent at coding!

We talked about the possibility of life on Mars, and designed our very own Martians. We also enjoyed learning about Chris Hadfield.
Finally, we practised our +6 tables outside and had fun playing some maths games.

September

It is important to explore our local play spaces. We took a short trip over to the new playground near our school. We had lots of fun playing together. When we got back, we mapped our journey from our classroom door the whole way over to the playground. We are already looking forward to when we can go back!

We have been learning about our local area. We worked in groups and planned out our dream town. We made sure to include things that every town needs, as well as things we wish our town could have.

We've been learning outside as much as possible! We enjoyed doing a five senses hunt around our school garden.
