Our Memories of 2nd Class

Hello 2nd Class!

Can you believe there is less than a week of school left!

You have all done a spectacular amount of work this year both in school and at home. I hope you can see the huge improvements you have made and are proud of yourselves.
We are now writing longer sentences, using correct punctuation to make our stories exciting and writing more overall!
We have counted money, added and taken away sums, measured capacity and worked with halves and quarters.
We have read, written, spelled and solved.
We have painted, acted, sang and ran.
We have reported, experimented and explored together.

Below you will see a short slideshow of some highlights from this school year. Some of our memories such as Grandparents Day, science week, our nature walk and our performance at the Winter show are not shown because the camera decided not to save them! But we will keep fond memories of them in our heads.

Well done to everyone! / Maith sibh!
Sarah

The Solar System

Take a look at this spectacular project presentation. It is out of this world! So many facts were included and the creativity is clear to see. Find photos of the project to the right. It is very well presented too. It is clear to see all the effort that was put in. Well done :)

Hello 2nd Class!

I can't believe there is only just over a week of school left! I want to say a huge well done to everyone for keeping the effort levels so high as we come to the end of 2nd class. I hope you are all proud of yourselves for the hard work you put in all year, I know I am!

This week we began learning about space, we did great revision of time, money and problem solving in maths and we combined Irish with the outdoors. You have continued to do fabulous work on Google Classroom where I have gotten lots of messages from you saying how much you are enjoying the activities, quizzes and reading with the Irish books.

On this week's class Zoom call, we had a great virtual tour of Dublin Zoo. It was so great seeing how much you all enjoyed it. The STEM presentation from Vidyuth and the exploding volcano experiment from Caterina added even more excitement. Maith sibh :)

Let's keep this enthusiasm and effort going for just one more week! - Is féidir linn!!

8th - 12th June

Hello 2nd Class!

It was so great to catch up with everyone who joined our class Zoom this morning! I loved hearing all about what you did during our week break as well as meeting new family members like Kate's new puppy, Scout. It is great to hear how well you are all doing and that you are enjoying the activities being posted on Google Classroom. Some of our class have been doing fantastic work on StudyLadder and SpellingsforMe too!

This week we had a very exciting podcast from RTÉjr to listen to and it explained so much about bees; the important role they play and how to look after them in your local environment. One student in our class even spoke on the podcast with his family! Some of you have sent in your drawings with what you learnt already and I'll be sure to share any more I receive too.

I want to say well done to everyone for all the effort you are putting into your school activities. This week we have done great work with data and money in maths, spellings and writing in literacy, and reading in Irish. I have heard you all enjoyed creating and completing your obstacle courses this week too!

I hope you are all as proud of yourselves as I am of you!

Maith sibh!

Sarah
This weeks project:
Create and complete your own outdoor obstacle course.

Have a look at this obstacle course that was created!

I really like how it was repeated three times but each time with a different way of movement (cycling, scooting, running).

It is clear to see that they were thinking about safety too by wearing a helmet, checking for cars before going onto the road and completing it in a quiet cul de sac.

Well done and thank you for sharing your video with us all!

I wonder if anyone else has a video or photo of the obstacle course they created?

Bees

This week we have a very exciting activity. One of our own 2nd class featured on a podcast for RTÉjr! Them and their family spoke all about bees and the important job they do. Below you can see pictures sent in showing the different equipment beekeepers need when looking after bees. You can see a honeycomb frame, beekeeping suit and the smoker used before opening a full hive as explained by the bee keeper at the start of the podcast. It is very interesting to listen to all the facts about bees and how to look after them.

● Have a listen to episode 19, Beecolution, of RTÉjr’s podcast below.
● Keep a special listen out between the minutes 12:50 to 17:00 and you will hear members of our own school community.
● Create a poster/drawing of what you hear and learn when listening to the podcast.

● Send in your poster and it will feature here too.

Hi 2nd class,
I hope you are all enjoying the new adventure into online learning with the start of Google Classroom. Some of you are off to a flying start!
Please get in contact with me if you are having difficult logging in with your child's username and password.

I am forever impressed with the work being sent into me and want to say a huge WELL DONE to everyone for all the effort you are putting into your work.

As it is Wellbeing Fortnight, we are still focusing on looking after our bodies and minds. I have heard about lots of the activities you have been getting up to this fortnight (reading, yoga, meditation, running, hikes, painting) and cannot wait to chat to you all about them at our Thursday Zoom call.

A special thank you to the 2nd class parents for your continued support and kindness.

Missing every single one of my wonderful second class students,

Dear 2nd Class,

I am delighted to hear that so many of you are spending time outdoors playing, being active and learning. It was great that so many of us took part in active home week last week. I hope you enjoyed all the great activities you got up to!

A massive well done to everyone for the wonderful effort you have all put in to your learning. I have been sent great full sentences for this weeks reading comprehensions. Also, I have seen some great Irish work for 'Is maith liom / Ní maith liom'. Some people have even finished the Master Your Maths book! A few of your classmates have earned certificates on StudyLadder for their great work online too.

You should give yourselves a pat on the back and a round of applause for all the effort and time you are spending learning, playing and having fun at home!

All the best to you and your families.

Missing you loads,
Sarah

Dear 2nd Class,

I have been blown away by all the work I have received so far this week. I am working hard to upload all the great work to the page.
A huge well done for all the effort you are putting into your learning. Your clocks are drawn so well which makes reading the time from them very clear. You are using full sentences to answer questions about the story 'Late Again!' which is great to see, and you are building your own sentences in Irish all about what you ate!
I am very impressed by everything I have seen so far! Please keep up all this wonderful effort.

Most of all, I hope you are happy, healthy and enjoying lots of time to play and enjoy the sunshine!

If you would like to share how you spent Active Home Week or any other project you have completed please send me an email or fill in the form above and I will be happy to share it!

Eolaíocht
Science

I received this amazing video of a science experiment.
It shows us how to create our own volcano and how to make it explode!!
It looks like great fun and reminds me of all the experiments we saw on our class trip to Explorium!

Bualadh bos mór!
A big round of applause!

Have a look at some of the fantastic work sent in from our class. I love seeing all the amazing things you are getting up to at home! It is a great time to find out more about a topic you are interested in. Hopefully you are enjoying the fabulous weather by playing outdoors too! I can't wait to see more lovely pictures of how you are spending your time. Maith sibh

Check out Vidyuth's fantastic project!

Vidyuth got creative with technology. He used the website www.mystorybook.com to create this project all about famous music director Alan Walker.

I had not heard of Alan Walker before but I learnt a lot when I read all the work Vidyuth had put in.

Maith thú Vidyuth! It is amazing to see what you're getting up to at home!

Our Class Trip to Explorium

2nd Class were very excited to discover all the wonders of Explorium.
We were so busy with science experiments, lying on a bed of nails, racing cars with air, broadcasting the news and more that we barely had any time to take photos!
Our favourite memories from Explorium were the amazing lightning show, the gravity room and when our teacher, Sarah, rode a bike upside down!
It's safe to say we had such a fun day!

Bhí an lá ar fheabhas! Go raibh maith agat Explorium!
The day was amazing! Thank you Explorium!

We became Lego Engineers!

Our school had the wonderful opportunity to use Lego WeDo kits and 2nd class simply loved it!
We used iPads to help us build Lego creations, designed a pattern of movement for them and created a code to make the Lego move! 2nd class showed great teamwork for this.

Maith sibh
Well done everyone

Maths Games

Our class is full of mathematicians!
We used lollipop sticks and playing cards to compare numbers using > < = (Greater than, less than, equal to). Some of our 5th class even came to help us too!
We also used cuisenaire rods to discover numbers, patterns and comparisons
.

Art with a twist!

We pushed back the tables to let all our artists get more creative! In groups, we created our dream towns. There were so many wonderful ideas being discussed in each group and everyone let their imagination go wild!
