June

Our best work gallery

19th June. WOW! Almost ready to eat.
4th June. It looks like something has had a little nibble at the strawberry plant's leaves! The strawberries have grown so big.

May

Best work Monday 25th May - Friday 29th May

Best work Monday 18th May - Friday 22nd May

Another fantastic week for Junior Infants. We read 'Aliens love underpants' at our class meeting and it was wonderful to see so many of you. We focused on tricky words and you had a book to read. We learned about éadaí and about number 6.

This week we also celebrated wellbeing week. I hope you had loads of time to play outside and do the things that you enjoy. Keep up the absolutely amazing work!

Best work Monday 11th May - Friday 15th May

What a week we've had! We celebrated Book Week this week, and it was lovely to see so many of you sharing the books you liked. We had our first ever class zoom, where we read 'What the Ladybird Heard' and got to chat about our favourite books. We also revised our phonics and 'is maith liom' agus 'ní maith liom'. We spent some time learning about number 5 and money. Take a quick look at some of the photos!

Best work Tuesday 5th May - Friday 8th May

Take a look at our best work this week!
A massive well done to the Junior Infants who managed to win the Active Home Challenge! I am so proud, and so excited for you to have a super fun P.E. lesson when we're back in school. Junior Infants are doing such wonderful work every week, and should be so proud of themselves.
To celebrate, make sure you get outside to enjoy the lovely sunshine, play and be active!

You may remember, not so long ago, we planted some strawberries. Take a look and see how they have grown. On our very last day in school, we planted some seed potatoes. You won't believe how big they have gotten! Jewel and I have been trying our best to look after them, watering them, and taking some photos to show you when we remember.

8th May. The strawberry plants are enjoying the sun! Look how much the leaves are growing. What can you spot in the last photo?
1st May. The strawberry plant has lots of new leaves. The potato plants definitely prefer the bigger pot. Can you see the new leaves growing?
We had to let the potatoes dry out a little to make it easier to repot them. When we lifted them out, we could see all of the roots! I thought this was really interesting to see how many there were. Do you know what the roots do? They have a very important job.
A new home for the potato plants! I think this pot may be a better fit.
19th April. Look how much the potato and strawberry plants have grown! I think the potato plants may need a new pot... Jewel and I have been informed that its best to cover up the stalk of the potatoes with more soil. This is so the nutrients go into growing the potatoes, rather making a lovely strong stalk and leaves! Did you know that the potatoes are growing in the soil?
7th April. Can you see the new growth on the strawberries? They have grown very quickly with all the sunshine!
7th April. Look how many new potato plants there are now!
4th April. The potatoes have started to grow! They came up very quickly Can you spot the green about to come up in the second photo?

April

Best Work Monday 27th April - Friday 1st May

Junior Infants, you have done absolutely amazing work this week, and every week. A massive well done and thank you to everyone who has sent in work or engaged with Active Week. Here is a little look at some of what our class have been up to this week...

This week is Active Week! I can't wait to see how many active hours Junior Infants can get altogether and hopefully we will win the prize! Don't forget to send in your Active Challenge Chart at the end of the week.
We also read The Enormous Turnip, and did a little practise with 3D shapes and number 3 this week. We focused on the word 'ag' and played Déir Ó Ghrádaigh at home!

One of our classmates shared some videos of himself ag canadh as gaeilge ! I thought they were absolutely fantastic, tá sé ar fheabhas!
I have included the music and the lyrics for each, in case anyone else would like to practise their gaeilge this way.

Lisa, our school secretary, is lucky enough to have some hungry caterpillars at home. She has offered to share some photos as they grow and change. Keep an eye out for more pictures here! Thank you Lisa, for sharing. I'm sure we'll find this interesting as we recently read the Hungry Caterpillar!

Early days... when the caterpillars first arrived.
Week One. What do you notice about their home?
Week Two. Have you noticed anything changing or growing?
Week 3.
The caterpillars have been very busy this week eating and growing. The food at the bottom used to be all smooth but now we can see all the bites the caterpillars are taking.
They are also practising climbing up and hanging from the lid. This makes them very hungry so they drop back down to eat more food before they try to climb again!
Week 4. This is a very exciting week. All of the caterpillars have cocooned. Take a look at the video below to see it in progress! How amazing. They are now in their new home. Can you remember what will happen next?
WOW! Look at what has happened! How amazing.

Look at this video of the butterfly coming out from its cocoon!

Its wings will take a little while to spread. It wil be crumpled for about two hours they are full of liquid. Did you notice the red stains? That is the extra liquid from the butterflies wings!

How amazing is this video! Thank you so much to Lisa for sharing with us.

Welcome to our virtual Mad Hatters Parade!

Look at what we can create with our AMAZING imaginations and a little bit of help...

All of the hats look absolutely fantastic, well done everybody!

Best work Monday 20th April - Friday 24th April.
This week, we heard the story 'A Squash and A Squeeze' by Julia Donaldson. It is illustrated by Axel Scheffler. We searched for some rhyming words, and we created our dream homes.
We spent some time working on number 2, and reminding ourselves about 2D shapes.
We also kept a dialann aimsire for a week!
Take a look at the pictures of our excellent work below...
Well done Junior Infants! Keep up the great work.

I was amazed to see the brilliant work that you are all doing at home. Keep it up everyone, you should be so proud!

I am also delighted to see that children are working away on studyladder. Some children have received certificates for their hard work - well done! If you are unsure of your child's log in details, you can let me know using the form for submitting work above.

Well done everyone, keep up the hard work and most importantly - don't forget to spend lots of time playing too!

Jacob made his own book about a bear hunt.
My favourite part was when the bear was in the bath!
Fantastic work Jacob, you should be very proud of yourself.

Look what has been busy growing!

February

We have been focusing on the skill of 'striking with the hand' in P.E.
We finished up by playing some games with balloons, including the classic 'keep the balloon off the floor'. Balloon tennis was a favourite!

Rinne muid pancóga!
Chuir na páistí plúr, ubh agus bainne isteach sa bhabhla agus mheasc siad na comhábhair le chéile.

We made pancakes!
The children mixed the eggs, flour and milk in the bowl.
We ate them with strawberries and they were delicious!

Safer Internet Day 2020

We had a discussion about the internet, what the internet is and how we can use it. We talked about how while the internet can be great, we must use it with an adult and that the world outside the internet is also very important. We watched a webwise HTML Heroes video 'what is the internet?' everybody got a wristband to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2020.

Recycled Art Competition

Grandparents' Day 7th Feb 2020.

A massive thank you to all the wonderful grandparents who came to visit us and celebrate Grandparents Day. We asked the grandparents questions about what life and school was like when they were our age. We found out some very interesting facts, and then the grandparents stayed to play with us! Thank you for having so much patience and being so generous with your time. We really enjoyed the day and hope you did too!

Our daffodils and tulips are growing!

Chinese New Year
We are celebrating Chinese New Year. We read the story of the Chinese Zodiac. We ordered the animals from 1st place to 12th place. Our work is on display on the stairs for the whole school to see!

We are learning all about keeping healthy.

Steam Week 2020

To celebrate STEAM week, we went to the Exploration Dome. We went inside the dome and experienced the solar system! We could see stars, planets, moons and so much more. We learned about the weather on different planets and all about the constellations.

We've been very busy in the new supermarket in our room. We have been making shopping lists, looking at brochures, going shopping with our family, paying for our shopping at the checkout and then going home to put it away.

We love to build!

On Wednesday we had our first reading circle. We read with some members of the Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School. They read to us, and we had a chat about the story. We really enjoyed it and are already looking forward to our next reading circle. Thank you to Firhouse ETSS!

Today some members of the Dublin fire brigade came out to visit Junior Infants. The firefighters were extremely kind and took lots of time out of their day to show us the fire engine. We each had a turn to use the hose and to get into the fire engine. It was an absolutely amazing day!

Our daffodils are growing! Hopefully the tulips we planted will begin to grow soon.

December

Trip to the post office 13/12/19.

Some children in our class didn't miss a single day in November - well done!

Picture

Visit from the Sam Maguire, 11/12/19

We are learning about the post office. We have been writing letters, writing the address on the envelope, buying stamps and posting them! We have also been weighing our parcels and sending them. Soon we are going to walk to the post office and post a card home!

On Wednesday 4th December, we used our time in the library to do some buddy reading with second class. We really enjoyed reading some books together. Thank you second class.

On Tuesday 3rd December, Cathy from Artzone came in to our class. She did some amazing art using airclay. We made polar bears with scarves.

November

On Wednesday 20th November, we had some special visitors to our classroom - a vet, a veterinary nurse, and Lily the dog from Firhouse Vets! They told us about what they do each day, how they help animals and how we can look after pets. They answered all of our questions and we learned so much! What a fantastic way to end our theme of the vets. We even got to feed Lily the dog some treats and to listen to her heartbeat with the stethoscope. A massive thank you to Firhouse Vets for teaching us so much.

This month we have been learning about the Vets. We have had a lot of practice creating waiting rooms, waiting with our sick pets, ringing to make appointments and working as a receptionist, a vet or a nurse.

Over the last few weeks Adam from St. Anne's GAA Club has been doing P.E. with us. We have had a lot of fun and developed tonnes of new skills.

Science Week 2019.

We have loved doing experiments in school this week. Over the last two weeks, we worked together to design and make boats using recyclable materials. We spent some time painting and decorating them. Our challenge was to make a boat which floated for five seconds, with the three little bears on them. It was so much fun! We learned a lot about sinking and floating, and about waterproof materials.

During Science Week, we made some predictions about which classroom objects would sink and which would float. We recorded the results.
Finally, for our last experiment, we put some skittles into warm and cold water and observed what happened. The sugar coating on the skittles dissolved and made a rainbow!

Well done everyone for their fantastic work as scientists.

Monday 4th November.
Today we planted daffodil bulbs. We made sure they were facing the right way. We each added some soil. We will make sure they get enough water and sunlight and hopefully they will grow in Spring.

October

Self-Expression Day

Picture

Tree day 2019.
We went for an Autumn walk. All of the children worked together to gather some leaves and make a pile. We sang the Autumn leaves song, and each child jumped into the pile of leaves. It was so much fun!

Look at all our wonderful Autumn art.

We have been learning all about the doctor's surgery and the hospital. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Nurse Sinead on Wednesday 16th October! She showed us some of the things that are used in a hospital, like bandages, stethoscopes and needles. Sinead explained the different things that doctors and nurses do and how they can help us. Thank you, Sinead, for visiting us!

We had our first class trip on Friday 11th October. We went to the Civic Theatre to see a show called Fairytale Friends. We all really enjoyed the trip, and the show was very funny!  A huge thank you to all the parents who came, and all those who offered to help. We had a great day, and are already looking forward to our next trip!

We were so lucky to get to use the Beebots for Code Week 2019. We began to develop our coding skills. Thank you to the children from older classes who helped us.

September

It was European School Sports Day on Friday 27th September. We aimed to have 120 active minutes through our two yard times, some yoga, busy breaks, go noodle and best of all - we had extended P.E. and a dance party with all of the Junior Infants!

Developing our maths skills

We are learning about houses and homes.

We are working hard to develop our fine motor skills. This is so important for making sure we are ready to begin writing. We have been cutting, playing with playdough, making jigsaws and so much more!

We have been busy settling into school, playing and making new friends.
