Good morning everyone!

We are now down to the final seven school days of Term 3!

Special note: Tomorrow (Tuesday, 23 June), we will have a special Fourth Class Zoom call from 12:15 - 13:00. We will be discussing your memories of Fourth Class, thinking about your expectations for Fifth Class and saying goodbye to your classmates for the summer. (Log-in details for this call will follow later today.)

For our final week (and a bit!) of term, we will keep our focus on our class novel, nature and the outdoors, and STEM. If you see anything interesting when you are outdoors, such as a bird you have never seen before or a plant that you think looks interesting, please send a picture to homelearning@firhouseetns.ie with my name in the subject line. As always please keep sending your best work and projects to this email address.

In our final book club this week, we are reading Chapters 20, 21 and 22. You’ll get an email later in the week with the Zoom call log-in details.

Be sure to check out your classmates’ fabulous work on our class page: http://www.firhouseetns.ie/fourth-paul-class-2019-2020.html

Take care,
Paul

Good morning everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. There was so much fantastic work done by Fourth Class last week from stories to poems, fractions to Irish verbs, optical illusions and more. Keep up the good work!
For the month of June, our focus is on the outdoors. For ideas on how to explore the natural world around click here: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/30-days-wild-schools-pack
If you do any of these, please share them on Google Classroom or you can send them through the school email address homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it. If your child completes any other activities or is working on a project, feel free to share it.
Also in keeping with our theme of Nature for the month of June I would also like to bring to your attention the brilliant resource available from Dublin Zoo. You can complete a virtual tour of the zoo itself here: https://www.dublinzoo.ie/virtual-tours-2/ and can get a tour of a Rainforest here. They have also created a worksheet based on the rainforest which I have included. If Space is more of interest you could also pay a visit to Smarttscience.com. It has been created by professor of astrophysics Stephen Smartt who also hosts a live video lesson every Tuesday at 11 o' clock via his YouTube channel. Check out his website and channel for the lessons he has already completed.

If you have questions about any of the work this week, just get in touch.

Take care!
Paul

  1. Spellings - Week 33 (see below). Find out if they are nouns or adjectives and write out their definitions. A link to a dictionary is provided.
  2. Write a story containing as many of your spellings as possible. Upload it to Google Classroom when you’re done.

  • Where will you put your shed?.
  • Include a key code for the materials you will use in your design.
  • Will there be a stone patio or a raised wooden deck? Think about all the different materials you might use.
  • Consider shapes in your garden. Include a variety of shapes in your design. Remember the plan will be a bird’s eye view, so you may draw 2-D shapes to represent 3-D structures.
  • Choose the vegetables or herbs you will plant and explain why you chose them. Where in the garden will you place them? (North, South, East, West) Why did you choose this location? Think about the sun moving around the sky during the day.
  • What can you do to reduce your carbon footprint? What could you add to the garden to do this? Explain your choice.

Good morning everyone!

I’d like to welcome you all back to another week of home learning. I hope that you enjoyed last week’s break. We are now in the final three weeks of Term 3 before summer so let’s make the time count!

Special note: This Friday, 12th June, we will have a special 4th Class Writing and Book Share Zoom call from 10:00 - 10:45. Hopefully you heard the announcement by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, before the weekend in which he outlined the ways we can go back to a bit more of a normal life.I know the past few months have been extremely tough on everyone but our hard work has been worth it! Remember to practise social distancing and to wash your hands!

I’d like to thank Conor for his excellent piano playing at the assembly just before our June break. Maith thú, Conor!

For June we are going to have a focus on nature and outdoor activities. This week to start our focus, I would like you to listen to a podcast about bees which features three pupils in our school! Good morning, boys and girls!
I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend and that you are well rested.
Thank you to all the boys and girls who sent in their charts showing their physical activity for the Active Home Challenge last week. If you didn’t get a chance yet, please upload it to Google Classroom or email it to homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Remember: the winning class will get a special PE lesson with a coach when we’re back at school so we really want to do our best to be in with a chance to win!
As always, the most important thing is to try as many tasks as you can and do your personal best on each one. Submit your week to me for correction and feedback before looking at the solutions. If something is causing you stress, take a break from it! Ask me if you get stuck and I will do whatever I can to help you understand the material.
The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.
Take care!
Paul

Monday, 27th April 2020

Good morning, boys and girls!
Well done on all the work you have done so far at home! Remember, if you do any projects yourself at home or do some baking or have learned anything new you would like to share with the rest of the class, your parent/guardian can email a photo or two to homelearning@firhouseetns.ie and I’ll publish it on the class webpage. I’ve seen great examples of art, projects, baking and more so far - keep them coming!
We received many entries for the Mad Hatters competition and these have all been displayed on our class’s webpage. Later today, four winners across the whole school will be selected and the winning entries will be shown on the homepage of our site.
As always, the most important thing is to try as many tasks as you can. There are two things I would like you to be mindful of this week:
  1. Master Your Maths: Wait for me to correct one set of questions and give you feedback before moving onto the next set. If you don’t understand how to answer a question - ask me! I’m your teacher and I’m here to help.
  2. Please give the Gaeilge tasks a go, even if you find them hard. We all get better at new things with lots of practice.
The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.

Take care!
Paul

Monday, 20th April 2020

Good morning, boys and girls!

I hope that you have all enjoyed a well-deserved break from schoolwork over the past fortnight. Even though we are not in school, it is important to take time off in the evenings, at weekends and over holidays to relax, slow down a little and enjoy a break.

We are now beginning a unique Term 3 as we continue our learning at home. I know it is very hard to be apart from your friends at this time. Maybe consider writing a postcard or a letter to your friends to share your news and keep in touch. As we learned in Stay Safe, if you are feeling upset it is important to chat to a grown-up at home. A problem shared is a problem halved!

Below is the work for the week ahead. Do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. The three most important things you can do are: do lots of reading every single day, practise your spellings every week and revise your tables regularly.

Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. The email address to send your best work to is homelearning@firhouseetns.ie. Be sure to mention my name in the subject line so I will see it.

Finally, remember that RTÉ2 is airing a fantastic programme called Home School Hub each weekday morning from 11am to 12pm. You may find some more nice learning ideas here. The three múinteoirí are great fun and you’ll learn lots from them! Their website is https://www.rte.ie/learn/ and the show is also available on the RTÉ player.

Take care!
Paul

Good morning, boys and girls!

I hope that you are all keeping safe, well and happy at home. I know that this is a difficult time. The most important thing you can do at the moment is to take care of yourselves and your families. I miss seeing each one of you in class every morning and hearing your news. I look forward to when we can all get back to normal again. This is my workspace at home and one of my cats. His name is Fred!

In the meantime, I have some work here to keep up your learning at home this week. This is the last week of the second term in school before the Spring Holidays which start this Friday, April 3rd. Just like the last two weeks, do your best with this work but I understand it might be difficult to do it all. Remember, your parents/guardians can send in a picture of one or two pieces of your best work every week if you want and it will be featured in a gallery on our class webpage. 18th March 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that your children are all ready for this great challenge of learning at home!

Below are log-in details for your son/daughter to access Google Classroom, where tasks and assignments will be set. Please be assured these learning activities are intended to be a support for parents at this time rather than an extra task they must complete with their children. We do not want to add an extra challenge by assigning work to be completed. The school's expectation is that this work is provided to support your child during school closure.

Username: pupils’s first name 2022 @firhouseetns.ie (e.g. paul2022@firhouseetns.ie) (all lower case)
