Hello Everyone,
The month of November has been a wonderfully busy month in our school. Firstly, we had some representatives from the Slovak Education Ministry visiting our school. This was organised by Maria, who runs the 3 Little Lambs pre and after school, as she is keen to set up a Slovak school here in Ireland. We also had several visitors from the Department of Education and Skills (DES) who were checking out our new premises.
Then we had Dublin Footballer James McCarty bring the Sam Maguire to visit our school, which was a huge hit. Many, many photos of this event are up on St Anne's GAA website.
Offers of places for Junior Infants 2016 have gone out and we are still waiting on news from the DES as to whether we can open a second class of Junior Infants in 2016 or not. This would mean a new classroom would have to be provided. We are still awaiting a decision on the enrolment policy regarding catchment priority and sibling priority.
Our new Board of Management is ready to take office from next Tuesday 1st December as detailed below. The PGTA committee is organising after-school classes for January and a new venture has been proposed by a parent willing to start a fitness class for parents which would benefit school funds. I've also suggested to Lisa, our PGTA Chairperson, to use classroom 4 for a weekly coffee morning for parents if there is enough interest. In the long term, when we have our permanent building I envisage having a parents' room for many such get togethers.
In all classes there has been wonderful activity and learning. Check out class pages for more details. Senior Infants and First Class are now delighted to be walking over to use the Firhouse Community Centre Hall for P.E. every Thursday. We celebrated Marriage Equality at one of our school assemblies as well as Diwali and Guru Nanak's birthday and our value for November which was sharing. The children are really enjoying helping and supporting each other through our newly established Buddy System - make sure to ask them who they are teamed with. The value we will be focusing on in December is kindness.
We are looking forward to Dogs' Trust visiting our school on December 3rd as well as Grandparents' Day on December 10th which follows our Parent-Teacher meetings on the 8th and 9th. If you know a Grandparent who would like to come in and talk to the children about their schooldays or read a story, in any language, please contact me as soon as possible. Junior Infant parents are aware of the upcoming vaccinations..... the sole day when a lollipop is given in our school -with parental consent.
Plans are also underway for our 2015 Winter Wonderland presentation which will take place on, the day of the Winter Holidays, the 22nd December at 12.30 in classroom 4. As an Educate Together school we provide equality based education and therefore our Winter Wonderland presentation is a celebration of all light festivals and of Winter. I'd also like to remind everyone that we have a No Gift Policy in our school and I would greatly appreciate you all going along with it. If one parent brings a gift/s to school it can really upset others who have rightly followed the policy. I thank you in advance for your co-operation.
I look forward to seeing you all over the coming days.
Very best regards,
Collette
