Hello Everyone,
It is with mixed emotions I welcome the new Enrolment Policy, in place since last evening. This issue has caused a lot of anxiety for families with children currently in our school who wanted and voted for a sibling priority and everyone is relieved and happy that this has been achieved. However, I and our Board of Management are very aware that many families are now in doubt of getting their child/children into our school in future years because of the catchment area changes imposed by this new Enrolment Policy. Catchment in itself is fine but the problem remains that not every area has an Educate Together or multi-denominational school. Parents have therefore pre-enrolled their child/children years in advance to secure a place/places in a school with their choice of ethos. Many parents who did so in our school are now facing uncertainty with the new enrolment categories. Our Board of Management did everything possible over the past year to have a phased in system for the changeover to the required catchment area enrolment policy but this was not approved. There is undoubtedly much work to be done in Ireland to provide equality for parents to send their child to a school with an ethos of their choice.
I'd also like to thank our Board of Management and particularly our Chairperson, Francis Fullen, for all the work and time they have put into this whole issue surrounding our school's enrolment policy. It has been particularly onerous and time consuming for these wonderful people who volunteer to manage our school.
Please be assured that our Board of Management has the very best interests of our current and future families to the fore at all times.
With very best wishes to you all,
Collette
