Hello Everyone,
I'm delighted to say it was a wonderful end of term, last Friday, for all the children in our school as each class enjoyed a 'Spring Scavenger Hunt' organised by Rachael and Conor. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for your tremendous support in so many ways during the past term. Everyone is contributing to our school community in so many ways that it's impossible to list them all here but please know that everything you do as well as your words of encouragement and support are all very much appreciated by me and all our great staff as well as by our Board of Management.
Lots of great initiatives took place during the term with the highlight being a visit from the Student Council of Rathfarnham Educate with their Teacher Geralynn and their Principal Mary. It was wonderful to see our younger Student Council members hosting the visit and the interaction between the older students from Rathfarnham ETNS and ours in the classrooms. Thank you so much to Geralynn and Mary and all the members of Rathfarnham Student Council for taking the time to visit us and share their experiences on the Student Council with our Student Council.
We also had the Mobile Library visiting our school for the first time and please ensure the books borrowed are returned to school on Monday 24th April. There were super workshops on recycling facilitated by Roberta and Astrid, as well as a visit from An Taisce recommending our school for its first Green School Flag. 1st and 2nd classes' trip to Imaginosity was also a huge success and the teachers have agreed this should be an annual event in our school. Thanks to Dora and Conor for hosting 'Move It Morning' on several Wednesdays and we look forward to many more during Active Week when we gat back to school. Thanks again to Catrin for the wonderful School Anthem she composed for our school and to all the children who sang it so well for parents in the yard.
Below are some April 2017 updates for your information:
Active School Week: 24th - 28th April 2017: We will be holding a series of active events in classes each day during this week and 1st and 2nd Classes will visit the Astropark on the Greenhills Road in Tallaght on Thursday 27th April. We are awaiting details on possible free transport and will forward same as soon as we receive them, but if this doesn't work out families will be asked to contribute to cover cost of bus hire.
Forest School: We are starting to grow tomatoes as part of the Incredible Edibles programme and thanks to Rachael and Rachel for getting this started.
Choir: The singing at the school choir sessions on Thursday mornings just keeps getting better and better. Well done to all Choir Members.
Green School: Well done to all of our Green School Committee who continue to monitor our recycling and rubbish separation so well. Thank you to everyone for taking home yogurt cartons etc to wash and then recycle.
Fun Friends: The students of 1st Class are currently undertaking the initial lessons of this programme and we look forward to establishing it in all classes thereafter. Thank you to the small group of parents who came in to the meeting with teachers about the programme.
New Building: It is great to see our new school building progressing so well and it is looking very good for it being finished on time for us to open in September. To this end, Darren (Murphy), Dad of Simon in 1st Class, will co-ordinate the move to the new building. We will need helpers with packing, lifting and cleaning both at the end of June and the end of August. The difficulty is we don't know when we will have access to the new building. It could be September 1st, which would give us the weekend to get organised or it may be some days beforehand. Foe the moment, will you just keep it in mind and if you think you might be free to help in June and/or August please let me or Darren know.
Second Stream Support: Thank you to all of you who have emailed me about your concerns about the Department of Education and Skills' (DES) decision to approve only one class of Junior infants in 2017. I appreciate your concerns and your support for our school but the Board of Management must comply with all decisions made by the DES.
Stay Safe Programme: As we, all staff, recently completed training on the revised Stay Safe Programme, the programme will be undertaken in Senior Infants and 2nd Class during the coming term. There will be a meeting for parents with children in these classes beforehand.
I hope you all enjoy the Spring Holidays and upcoming long weekend.
Very best regards,
Collette
